The dark blue compact car stopped at Willow Bend Boulevard and Schneider Drive in Fort Walton Beach.

A child about 9 years old got out, then threw something into the woods.

A Good Samaritan driving home from work about 5:15 p.m. Monday saw it from a distance. She thought they were dumping trash. She tried to get a license plate number, but the car sped off.

Instead of trash, what they dumped was “a beautiful, wonderful kitty cat,” the Good Samaritan said. “The little black thing” came right up to her, meowing. “How could they do this?”

The male kitten, about five months old, had a fractured tail and pelvis, and the tissue ripped from its lips. He was very hungry.

SOCKS rushed the kitten to the vet. He purred the whole time. His tail had to be amputated, but this sweet boy is on the mend and doing great. Tuna’s medical bill is $703.92

“SOCKS isn’t really in a position to take on an injury case like this, but the situation was too awful to turn him away,” said SOCKS Executive Director Nancy Schimmer. “Then, after I learned how it happened, I was even more horrified for this kitten. What are these people teaching their children? I’m just grateful a Good Samaritan saw it and stopped to take care of the kitten.”
